Course Description

The course is delivered in house in our dedicated training unit and is delivered using HSE Guidelines (Recognising & Responding to Elder Abuse in Care Settings) and is in line with Section 2 – Standard 8 ‘The Protection Standard’ of the ‘National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland,’ as published by HIQA. In addition to the standard Elder Abuse training (Modules 1 – 10) delivered on day 1, the Supervisors part covers more detail on day 2 (Modules 11 – 20).

Course Details

The training programme is designed to:

  • Increase knowledge and understanding of what elder abuse is
  • Help staff identify care practices that might lead to or contribute to elder abuse
  • Help staff recognise elder abuse
  • Explain the actions that need to be taken if it is suspected that elder abuse is taking place
  • Recognise discrimination.
