Day 1 Morning Session - Understanding Coaching:
- Intro - what coaching is and what it is not
- How it differs from other helping professions and other organisational roles
- The different types of Coaching
- The process of coaching – how & why it works
- The nature of the coaching relationship
- Challenges and barriers to coaching
- Creating an environment conducive to coaching.
Afternoon Session - Understanding what makes a great Coach:
- Key skills necessary to be a great Coach
- Power of self awareness and observation
- Questioning – different types + power of their use
- Listening – 3 different levels
- Challenging – how and why to challenge
- Use of the GROW model
- Initial practice in the role of being a coach.
Day 2 Morning Session – Focusing on the Client
- Values and Beliefs including self limiting beliefs
- Identifying resistance – words/expressions/tone/body language/deflecting/projection
- Giving positive and negative feedback
- Reframing and communicating back
- Goal formation – SMART Goals.
Afternoon Session – Putting Coaching into practice

Preferred entry level:
- Leaving Certificate or equivalent and /or relevant life and work Experience. Learners are expected to be proficient at reading, drafting, preparing and understanding information across a broad range of topics, including quantitative information for a Level 5 award and more complex information for Level 6 award.
- As this programme is delivered through distance learning, students must be capable of studying on their own initiative.
Programme Entry Requirements:
- If you take this course by distance learning the course material will be posted to you. You can complete and return assignments/projects which must be typed rather than handwritten either by post or by email.

Progression to further Studies:
- This course leads to a level 6 award on the National Framework of Qualifications. You can use this credit towards completing a major award in Management BMANX

The internal assessor will devise a project brief that requires candidates to demonstrate their ability to carry out a practical coaching project.
Skills Demonstration:
In a skills demonstration, candidates will be assessed in:
- introducing and initiating a coaching session
- establishing and building rapport with a client
- the use of effective questioning and active listening
- remaining impartial and non-judgemental
- the use of the G.R.O.W. model
- setting objectives for the session
- clarifying present reality
- exploring options
- gaining commitment for achieving goals set from the session
- setting a timescale for implementation of action plan
- concluding the session.
As part of our quality assurance, student assessment work will be marked by an Internal Assessor, validated by a Verifier with an independent FETAC External Authenticator to complete the process.
