Assessment:

This course is assessed through a number of assignments and a final exam which students must complete to demonstrate their understanding of various topics.

Project x2 100%

The internal assessor will devise project briefs for two detailed and comprehensive case studies that require candidates to demonstrate:

  • their learning across all the Units of the module
  • understanding and application of concepts in the context of children with special needs and their care and provision
  • ability to analyse, evaluate, reflect, draw conclusions and make recommendations.

Each assessment brief will require the candidate to prepare a detailed and comprehensive case study, involving research and consultation on a different aspect of a child or children with special needs over a sustained period of time.

Each case study brief should give the candidate the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of children with special needs, of the special needs sector, and show familiarity with current issues, policy and legislation in special needs. This will include demonstration of an awareness of the factors, both positive and negative, which impact on children with special needs and their families.

Each case study should assess the candidate’s ability to present accurate information, reflect, analyse, evaluate, draw conclusions and make recommendations as appropriate.
The form in which the case study is presented will be agreed in consultation with the internal assessor. Each case study carries equal marks.
