Double finalist in The Education Awards 2022
The Open College are delighted to announce that we are double finalists in The Irish Education Awards 2022.
The Education Awards recognise, encourage and celebrate excellence in the third level education sector on the island of Ireland from both State and Privately funded institutions. This recognition underlines The Open College’s commitment to innovation in education, student services and quality in QQI accredited online learning.
We are delighted to be finalists in the following categories:
- Best Further Education Provider: This award is for the further education provider that has demonstrated the most outstanding overall performance during the past 12 months. It is open to all further education providers in Ireland, both within universities and the private sector.
- Best Online Learning Experience: This award recognises Irish-based third level institutions, technical training college or organisation that have developed and integrated the best online learning experience for its students.
The Award categories are designed to highlight the key areas that impact upon student performance and provide opportunities for educational institutions, their employees and contributors to have their achievements recognised across the various important facets of their operations.
An independent board of expert judges, from the highest level of different Educational Institutions in Ireland and abroad, will decide the winners of the Education Awards. The Education awards main focus is to deliver a fair and balanced judging assessment from industry leaders who will bring their extensive knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise to the judging process ensuring that the winning entries are truly outstanding and worthy of receiving an Education Award.

New Early Learning & Care Degree
As the largest provider of Online courses in Ireland we are delighted to announce the launch of our comprehensive fully Online Degree Programme – BA Degree in Early Learning & Care in collaboration with one of the UK’s most prestigious Universities – Oxford Brookes University.
Our new online two year BA (Ord) in Early Learning & Care Degree programme has been developed for childcare practitioners progressing from 6M2007 QQI ECCE Level 6 Major awards and seeks to prepare you to take a professional and leading role in ELC provision. This may be in a formal leadership position or through mentoring, training and supporting roles in the workplace. As part of this preparation, you will gain a clear understanding of how children grow and learn, and of the interaction between learning and development.
You will recognise the important role of play in learning and development and apply this critically and reflectively to planning, leading and evaluating activities for young children. Observing children and analysing your observations will enable you to create an appropriate learning environment for each child that takes account of their stage of development, their interests and their needs.
Recent government initiatives, in the example of ‘First 5’ indicate predictors for growth and demand in the market, whereby it is intended for Ireland to have a graduate led ELC workforce, with at least 50% of staff (i.e. all room leaders, assistant manager and managers) working directly with children in centre-based ELC settings and coordinators supporting the work of childminders to hold an appropriate degree-level qualification.
Applications are now open for September 2021 start.
