Programme Lead In Early Learning & Care
Scope & Purpose of the Role:
This role typically requires extensive academic experience, which includes contributions in validations, teaching, sector research and related management/administration, leading to national/international recognition for their expertise within their academic discipline.
Role holders will be expected to take leading roles in developing and design and overseeing teaching programmes at the associated level, and to lead collaborative work across the category. As such they will provide leadership that will influence and shape the output of their area and will contribute directly to the level of success enjoyed by the department. Role holders may also teach, advise, and assess at the designated level of their assigned module(s) on a programme. They are also expected to make a wider contribution to the success of the College through their participation in Faculty and College-wide governance and development activities.
Main Duties:
The main duties and responsibilities of this role have been grouped in the following areas:
- Programme Development & Design.
- Learning and Teaching.
- Research, Innovation & Networking.
- Quality Assurance and Enhancement.
1. Programme Development & Design
- Working with programme validations, provide academic leadership and subject matter knowledge to ensure the successful design, development and validation of the
- Manage the programme development team to ensure that design and validations are completed within agreed timeframes.
- To make contributions of appropriate quality to awards being prepared for review and/or
- Alongside the Head of Programme Development & Validations, engage with external bodies to ensure the programme meets professional standards in the sector where applicable.
2. Learning and Teaching
- Responsible for managing taught programmes and supporting teaching staff in their day-to- day activities to ensure the success of the teaching and learning experience.
- Contribute to the ongoing review and development of the programme curriculum ensuring relevancy and consistency.
- Ensure that programme design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the College.
- Contribute to the development of academic processes across the
- Contribute to the development of learning and teaching
- May teach a range of materials (where applicable).
- Develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.
- Contribute to the development of teams and individuals by providing advice on personal
- Oversee the monitoring of student progress and provide advice and guidance to tutors and students as appropriate.
3. Research, Innovation & Networking
- To engage in sector research activity and/or innovation nationally and internationally, subject to the approval of the College and to contribute to the research objectives of the College.
- To engage in subject and professional research and pedagogy development as required to support teaching activities where applicable
- Lead and develop internal networks, for example by participating in College committees or working groups.
- Develop links with external contacts such as other educational bodies, employers and professional bodies to foster collaboration.
4. Quality Assurance and Enhancement
- To be committed to and play a significant part in the total quality management of the subject
- To participate in assessment and evaluation of curriculum design and the quality of learning and teaching provided by subject staff.
- To ensure adherence to, and effective operation of quality assurance and enhancement policies and processes.
- To ensure communications systems and practices support effective management arrangements and promote good relations with staff and students.

- Knowledge of teaching online and relevant tools, particularly Moodle and Microsoft Teams.
- Knowledge of the validation process for new programmes.
- Experience working with relevant professional bodies.
- Experience developing policy within a higher education context.
Qualifications:

The Open College are recruiting new online Early Learning & Care Tutors and are seeking to recruit tutors for various QQI Level 5 & 6 Early Learning & Care Courses.
Applicants are invited to apply who are suitably qualified and have the expertise in the Early Learning & Care industry from a range of services to include; practitioners, educators, managers, policy developers and/or any other relevant and associated discipline.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate each of the following;
Education & Skills Required:
- A relevant childcare qualification – QQI level 7 minimum
- Adult Training Experience – minimum 2 years post Online experience desirable
- Co-ordinate, monitor and assess childcare courses and student progress
- Previous experience in the delivery of QQI courses and an awareness of QQI processes would be an advantage
- Develop resources appropriate to each module
- Suggest programme or curriculum improvements to the college

- Experience lecturing at undergraduate level.
- Experience with online teaching platforms.
